Sally Hansen Big Matte Top Coat Review
Hi cuties,
So I've had this top coat for a while now and I wanted to do a review for you guys in case any of you were planning on getting it. It's the Sally Hansen Big Matte top coat.
There are plenty of brands that have come out with matte top coats over the years. I wanted to get one for myself but I didn't want to shed the money for an expensive one if I was only going to use it occasionally. Sally Hansen came out with a "Big" line which includes this matte one and a shiny one, I believe.
The instructions tell you to shake gentle and apply 1 coat over your dry nail colour. They top coat goes on pretty clear but you can start to see it turn matte just seconds after applying. It's pretty cool to watch. It also dries fairly quickly, which was nice to find out.
(Sorry for the gross chipping nail polish) I tested it on my thumb so you can compare the difference between the regular shiny nail and the matte thumb nail. The finish is indeed matte both to the touch and visually. However, I found that after a day or two of wear, it starts to fade off and become less matte the longer you keep it on your nails. It starts to wear off into a sort of satin-finish, and then finally you can start to see it completely gone in patches on your nails. So I would not say this is a long-wearing top coat at all.
Rating: ★★★☆☆ 3/5
Overall, I'd say this isn't the best matte top coat you can find. It's a cheaper alternative to say an OPI or Essie matte top coat, but it's also lesser in quality and doesn't stay on the nail as well, I'd assume. However, if you don't mind painting on a fresh coat every 2-3 days or so, then I'd say go for it.

Hello, Leo season!
Hi :)
These past few days has been pretty great for me hehe. I've been kept busy going on dates with my new boyfriend! I want to squeeze in as much fun as I can before school starts.
He has a dog named Rogue and she's absolutely adorable<3 I can't wait till we can have dates where we walk her around the parks and stuff. I've always wanted a dog but my family never allowed us one. Now I get a choice of Katsu and Rogue! (By the way, can we just talk about how he chose the most perfect name for her? Can you tell that we clearly bonded over comics?)
I stayed over the other night and he made me breakfast in the morning :) Brownie points for knowing to give me four slices of bacon.
It was also John's birthday the other day. I'm so glad we're in Leo season right now. All my favourite Leos are celebrating their birthdays and I'm making me super happy. My brother's birthday just pasted a week ago or so. Mike's birthday is coming up too, but he'll be in Japan on his birthday.
I picked up a couple of things from the drugstore a couple of weeks ago. I'm loving the nail polish I picked up, I also picked up two lip liners just because they're always handy to have, and a gold liquid liner from essence. It's part of their new Beach Cruise collection for the summer. They also had a teal/green liner but I think gold is the way to go. I'm loving the double black-gold liner thing.
Speaking of makeup, today I picked up a new essie polish. This is the first time I've picked something in the sheer-white-pink tone and I'm quite liking it. I also picked up a new eyebrow pencil and gel. Eyebrows are clearly really important to me if you haven't noticed.
I got to hang out with my cousin after she came back from her vacation the other weekend. We spent the day downtown near the harbour and at Sugar Beach just sitting at a patio and eating some fish and chips. It's always nice catching up with family and spending time downtown. I'm definitely a downtown city kind of girl. Living up in the suburbs really isn't fun for me so I take any chance I can get to travel back to civilization and surround myself with tons of thousands of strangers.
This "morning" I went to eat pho with my brother for a late (read as: 4pm) breakfast. Does anyone else get sudden cravings for pho? I swear, it's one of the best foods in the world known to man and could cure all your sicknesses.
Anddddd here's a bunch more random stuff. That's all I really wanna update for now!

The Blonde Adventures Begin!
That's right! I finally did it. I swear, I've wanted to go blonde for years now. I remember talking to my friends about it even back in middle school and high school but it hasn't been until now that I finally did it. I've never dyed or done anything to my hair up until this point, so it was really fun for my hairstylist friend Mike to do virgin hair. I really liked my natural hair colour because it was a strange brown (definitely not black), but he convinced me that I have my whole life to enjoy my natural colour. Thankfully my hair was easy to lift colour out of. It quickly became a lovely blonde which we later toned into an ashy tone. I'm in loveeee with this colour and I'm convinced I'll probably never go back to dark hair haha.
For anyone who's interested in knowing where I got it done, my friend Mike works at
Spellbound, located downtown Toronto, right across from the Eaton Center.
(There's also a Markham location at First Markham Place). If you go to the downtown location, make sure you ask for Mike and tell him I sent you!
(Sorry the spam of selfies. I just really like this hair!)
After doing my hair, Mike and I headed out for food. He brought me to this place that makes amazing Japanese curry. I was in heaven.
Last Friday, I went over to Suki's and slept over. We drank that night and had a blast. I'm glad that I had least have her as a friend. She even brought me Starbucks one morning. Friend of the year.
We didn't end up sleeping much that night and woke up super early to grab some Mcdee breakfast and headed to the mall. She ended up helping me find a good pair of aviator sunglasses from H&M.
The rest of the week wasn't as eventful. I did learn that some people are quite dramatic and unnecessary, but still rather entertaining. These past few days have really shown me who I need in my life and who I really don't. Surprisingly, there are not many people that I need, apparently. But hey, if you put in the effort and they don't, then you know where you stand.
Anyway, I forgot to mention that I picked up a bunch of nail polishes. I'm ready for spring to happen! We got a couple of warm days and then it ended up snowing again. What gives, Canada?
Anddddd here's some food.
I ended up finding this in my bag the other day. It's a fork that Charming and I stole during one of our dinner dates back when we were dating. Instead of letting it get me sad again, I try my best to smile at the good memory this brings me. I still think about him a lot, but I'm sure he doesn't think of me nearly as much. I hope he's well.

Reading Week Comes To An End
How sad, this is the final day of reading week. I feel like one week
is not enough time to really get relaxed. I've only now started to
really enjoy my break and it's already over! This is really
depressing. There are a lot of projects that I haven't touched yet,
which I know I will regret later on in the week when I'm rushing to get
stuff done. Good thing they're not finals.
So what have I been up to this week? Since I didn't have school, most days I just stayed home. However, my aunt and uncle from Australia came to visit for that week. The adults were mostly busy with each other so I didn't get a chance to go shopping with my parents or anything like that.
I fixed up my blog a little bit more. If you've noticed, I changed the size of the body section so I can have large pictures again. My previous layout allowed me to do so and I really like having big pictures. The size I was limited to before was such an odd one, so I decided to just play around with the coding until I got the size that I liked. I'm more happy about this size more.
Valentines day was the Friday I started my reading week. Of course, I didn't do anything, but I made an effort not to let it get me down. It's still really hard for me to deal with the whole breakup, even though it has already been almost 2 months now. I have a feeling I'm not going to be okay for a very long time. Maybe even a year. But I'm not rushing myself and I'm doing whatever I can to just focus on myself and my life. I think that deserves some kind of recognition. I did however, doll myself up to make myself feel good :)
One thing that happened was that I got my belly button pierced! I've been wanting to get it done since I was like 14 or 15, but I never got around to doing it.
(Mostly because I didn't have the money for it) This time, I was in a "f*** it" mood, mostly because of the break up, and decided to get it done that week. Sometimes it feels good to be rebellious, but I've also learned that it comes in moderation. That week, I found myself in a situation where I wasn't sure how far I would go, but I slowly realized what my morals were and didn't go through with it. I think it's okay to do certain things, but if you start second guessing yourself, that's a clear sign you shouldn't do it. Needless to say, this piercing was one of the best decisions I've made and I'm totally in loveeee with it. I'm so glad I got it done!
Cleaning it has been really tedious and I'm really scared it will get infected, but I try my best to follow instructions and keep it as clean as I can. I never had any problems with infections when I got my ears pierced, although I know several people that have. I'd like to think that I'm pretty good at taking care of piercings.
My friend Ambar actually came with me to get it done. I haven't gotten to hang out with her in what feels like more than a year. She's one of my oldest and dearest friends and I love her to bits! Talking to her has really helped me not be so depressed because she's just so cute and makes you feel optimistic. I think having those kind of people in your life is really good and everyone should try to be like that.

We went to a cafe that had these huge lofts of bread dessert things. Walking into the place, I realized that I've been there once before, with Charming and his friends. I didn't let that get me down though. We read japanese magazines and stuffed our faces with sweet bread. If you know me, you'll know that I really don't like to eat bread due to the fact that most of my childhood meals were nothing but bread and I'm just so sick of it now. But I really wanted to try this because it looked so pretty and tempting. I ordered a matcha red bean one. Although it lacked in matcha flavour, it was still pretty yummy. It's nice to make new memories in old places.
The following day, my body woke itself up which didn't put me in such a good mood. The adults dragged me out to dim sum, another type of food I'm not particularly fond of. I did enjoy the tea cups they had there, though. Still, it felt like it was too early to be that fancy.
I went and visited Sariah even though we didn't get to hang out for that long. I really needed to get some sea salt to clean my piercing, so we went to the drug store and they only carried a big bag of it. I picked up the new Cosmo and Essie's Forever Yummy because I lacked a red in my polish collection. Here's what it looks like.
It's a little darker in person, but it's a pretty true red. I'm trying to grow out my nails so I can do the whole Louboutin nail thing. I've always wanted to do it even if it's not very practical. We'll see how it goes.
As for the sea salt, I dragged a huge bag home only to realize that I bought the wrong one! And I already opened the bag so I couldn't return it. How stupid of me, right? Now I have a $5 bag of sea salt FOR BATHS that I don't know what I'm going to do with. I don't plan on taking baths with it... Anyway, I got home and asked my brother to tag along with me to go to the grocery store to pick up the right kind of sea salt. Did you know that things in Canada never have labels as to with contains iodine or not?! MAN! I pretty much had to guess but I assume that if it doesn't say anything, it shouldn't contain iodine... At least that's what google says.

Look, I got my hair cut! I've been meaning to cut it and I don't remember when's the last time I got it cut, although I really only cut my hair once a year. I remember for the longest time, I've been bugging Charming to trim my hair after a week or two of getting it cut because I realized the person didn't cut the back the way I wanted it. But that was a while ago and he never got to do it before the whole break up thing :\ So... Yeah. I got it cut so I have new hair before class started again. I really like it and I usually get it cut like this anyway. My hair grows out so much within a year, it's crazy! I miss tying up my hair but you win some and you lose some.
I've been listening to a lot of
Marina and the Diamonds lately. She has such good girl power songs that make you feel like you can crush any man with your heels! Currently these are the couple that has been on repeat for me:
"Primadonna"
"Bubblegum Bitch"
"Oh No"
"How To Be A HeartBreaker"
Those songs really helped me get through Valentines day with a breeze. So if you wanna feel like a bad bitch, blast those songs on repeat and I guarantee you'll feel a lot better about yourself!
A fun fact: I found this caterpillar in my soup tonight during dinner. I still drank it haha. That's what happens when asians use so many dried plants as ingredients in their soups! What can I say? Good protein?
Here's a bunch of pictures I've accumulated throughout the week.
Today, I did a walk-through on how I contour my face. It's already written and everything so I'm going to post it sometime this week. Look out for that if you're interested! Until then, I guess I'm just going to try and enjoy whatever is left of my reading week.
xoxo.
